The American Invitational

The American Invitational is the most celebrated Grand Prix horse jumping event in the USA, and the only one in the world big enough to claim an NFL stadium as its home! The American Invitational has taken place on the field and under the lights at the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers every year since inception in 1972. This incredible horse jumping competition consists of two rounds. In the first round, the horses must clear 18 individual jumps, and wait until you see these jumps: They are absolutely beautiful, but they're the size of mini-vans! They average five feet, three inches in height and six-to-eight feet in width. The horses who make it through the first round without dropping a rail advance to the jump-off. The jump-off is a sudden death, flat-out race over six or eight fences to determine the winner, and it is thrilling to watch! The jumpers hit racehorse speed and sail over those monster fences, and of course, 25,000 people are on their feet screaming!
