Developer Tom Gaffney bought the Historic Crislip Arcade after its mostly antique and second-hand retail stores had been vacated by a developer for a condo project that withered. Encouraged by city official, Leslie Curan and other local businesses, Gaffney decided to turn the buildings into retail space that fit into the downtown arts scene. He invested in the project and after renovating half the block, other business began to fill other vacant spaces across the street, and the creative community began the quest for their own identity.
