Nontando

We chanced upon this wonderful little store, hidden in a strip mall off the beaten paths of Sarasota shopping, which is jam-packed with high quality art and craftwork from across Africa. The selection (as well as the pricing) is much better at Nontando than at other galleries of African artwork downtown, and since the owner buys his items directly from artisans in Africa, there is a "fair trade" element at work at Nontando. The owner is very knowledgeable about the items he carries, and can hunt out items not currently in his inventory if you describe what you're looking for. It's definitely worth grabbing a map and taking the ride down 41 to find Nontando.
