Jung's Concept of Shadow:
Discussion Group
Facilitated by Mary Gurley, M.A.
In this group we will seek understanding of C.G.Jung's concept of the Shadow in preparation of the upcoming lecture with Dr. James Hollis, "Why Good People Do Bad Things: Revisiting the Shadow" and the workshop, "Engaging the Personal Shadow". We will read from the collected works of C.G.Jung as well as many other authors who have studied Jungian Psychology. Jung in Collected Works: Vol. 10 speaks about the situation in Germany leading up to the second world war says: "In HItler, every German should have seen his own shadow, his own worst danger. It is everybody's allotted fate to become conscious of and learn to deal with this shadow." Through our personal journals and dreams we hope to learn more about our own unconscious shadow.
Mary H. Gurley, M.A. is a Jungian scholar who trained at the C.G. Jung Institute of Santa Fe for 3 years, and studied in Switzerland under Jungian analysts. Mary was a certified, licensed drug and alcoholism counselor and worked in mental health in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation programs. She has taught college classes and continues to conduct workshops and discussion groups. Mary defines herself as "a Seeker."
