The Florida Public Archaeology Network's Della Scott-Ireton will speak on Tristan de Luna's 1559 colonization attempt at present-day Pensacola and the archaeological investigation of his lost fleet. Ravaged by storms and privation, the ephemeral colony was abandoned and lost to time, known to historians only through a few letters and documents. This presentation will describe the Luna expedition and the archaeological research of Luna's shipwrecked fleet.
