South County Rose Group

Sunday, May 15, 2 pm the South County Rose Group will meet at Sun City Center United Methodist Church commmunity room. Guest speaker is Al Whitcomb, chairman of the Deep South District's Photography Committee and past president of the Tampa Rose Society. He will present a program on which shrubs and old garden roses do well in the hot Florida Climate. Al and his wife Sharon are also members of the Heritage Rose Society that specializes in roses of yesteryear. Many of the newer shrub roses are the result of cross-breeding with the older roses to produce wonderfully fragrant roses. I am sure the program will bring you a bit of nostalgia and you will recognize roses grown in your mother's and grandmother's yards. We will have several Old Garden Roses to give away as door prizes. Free event, public welcome. refreshments will be provided by Audrey and Mark Vietzke.
